This week I am not ashamed to tell you that I am obsessed with money. I have been dragging my ass on getting my consulting business set up properly with a financial planning software, but this is the week I am all over it. This week I hired a new, much less expensive but highly-recommended accountant. This week the Dow topped 22,000 and I had a strategic call with my financial planner to make some key decisions. This week I have been listening to podcasts and reading articles – all about money. How to save it. How to invest it. How to make it!
Are you also thinking about money? Is your financial house in order? Have you set goals for yourself?
The way I look at it, money gives us quite a bit of freedom. And you know I am ALL about FREEDOM! And my plan is to get to financial freedom as quickly as I can. Here are some decisions I have made in the past year to get to freedom faster:
- I downsized my living space. I was renting 800 sq ft. of luxury one bedroom. And that was quite nice and what I needed at that point in my life but last year I downsized to 550 sq. ft. which I now own. My king bed still fits in my bedroom, but that’s about it! And the rest of the space is modern and efficient. There is no room for extra stuff, so I don’t have extra stuff and that feels amazing. It is also small enough that it needs to be picked up and clean in order to feel good but it’s not difficult to keep a small space tidy! And I cut my monthly housing expense in half. IN HALF!
- I switched mobile phone plans. Google’s Project Fi is so damn cool. It allows me to manage my data consumption and they credit my account if I don’t use all the data I signed up for. And their Pixel phone is so intuitive. It knows my way to work and gives me an ETA each morning. It knows if I am at a restaurant and offers up the menu. It knows if my current phone connection is not strong and automatically switches between T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular. But mainly it’s saving me an average of $50/month and I am now addicted to Android.
- I minimized my wardrobe. Okay, so this was part of the move to a smaller apartment but how many clothes do we need?! I have written about this before, but only kept the things that fit me well and everything in my wardrobe coordinates with everything else so there is no time wasted or guess work when I dress myself each morning. There has been less need or desire to spend money on clothes/shoes as a result.
Freedom reigns in my bedroom and will hopefully in my bank account as well. Would love to hear ways you are getting to freedom – in every aspect of your life!
