A couple years ago, I was going through a difficult time in my life. A divorce to be specific. At a certain point, a girlfriend told me that I didn’t need to suffer through as much as I was. She told me that working on my energy, and realigning it, would help me feel better sooner rather than later. I accompanied her to an energy healing center where they practice all kinds of energy therapies, like color therapy, reiki, chakra clearing, akashic readings – I went with an open mind and an open heart.
I tried of few of the therapies and was kind of amazed how much better I felt, like immediately. But the best was my time with the chakra healer. Yes, she cleared my chakras (which it turned out weren’t that cluttered…) but she told me that to keep changing my energy for the positive, that I should do something different every day. Something new. And she didn’t mean that I need to sign up for skydiving or start training for a marathon. She meant little things. Like walking down a different street on my way to work. Or trying a new kind of tea. Or explore a new art gallery.
Apparently this chakra clearer was not the first to think of this idea. Turns out people do this for a year and then blog and write a book about it. That’s just what Lu Ann Can did! According to her interview on the Today Show, her firsts “ranged from riding a mechanical bull to rapelling into an underground cave. I spoke to a complete stranger on the street. I smoked my first cigar. I shoveled horse manure. I learned to surf. I took a drum lesson from a famous ’80s rocker. I spent time in a wheelchair. I attempted to experience blindness. I ate dessert for an entire day (I do not recommend this).” She describes this year of firsts as getting her “unstuck”.
I don’t know if I was stuck or not, but I did need to make sure that my energy was going to keep moving to positive places. So I didn’t do something new every single day, but I did try to mix up my “normal” daily routine with new spaces, places and people. I still keep this in mind and continually push myself to try new things or do things that are outside my comfort zone. If you try this, I would guess you will change your energy and grow as a human being!
